 Help Support Our Programs

The American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students.  At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.  Star Post has pledged to send at least two young men to this program on an annual basis with plans in the future to send more.  We have also committed to sending one young lady to attend Girls State, a similar program hosted by The American Legion Auxiliary.

Star Post members are regularly involved with supporting the Special Olympics.  Be it participating in the Sun in the Fun Chili Cook Off, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, or playing host at our LASD Tip-a-Cop events, our Legionnaires give back to those special individuals who teach us it's always better to give than to receive.

We have recently committed our Post to become a proud supporter of the Young Marines program.  The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America’s youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building and leadership and promotes a lifestyle that is conducive to being productive members of society.  Visit www.youngmarines.com for more information.

Many of our Star Post members serve a dual role: service to our country and service to our local communities as members of the law enforcement family.  Oftentimes, our reservists and guardsmen/women are called back to duty in service to our nation.  Star Post acknowledges its members who have been deployed to active duty by reaching out to them and their families.  One example is through our Holiday Care Package program.  Not only does the servicemember receive a gift package, but so does the family member at home.
